Whanganui Hosts Clubs New Zealand Annual Conference

Over 500 visitors from around the country convened at the War Memorial Centre in late March for the Clubs New Zealand annual conference.

The multi-day conference went off without a hitch, thanks largely to the efforts of local business and event coordinators.

Clubs New Zealand is a non-profit organisation representing clubs around New Zealand.

“With over 300,000 financial members, Clubs New Zealand is a significant organisation and our annual conference is the premier event of the year,” explains Larry Graham, Chief Executive of Clubs New Zealand.

Whanganui & Partners’ Conference Lead Louise Follett worked with the conference organisers to ensure they had all they needed to make this significant event a success. “It was a pleasure to work with the team from Clubs New Zealand,” says Louise. “We were excited to show the organisers what we can deliver in Whanganui.”

Getting the delegates to Whanganui was one of the first considerations. Fortunately, Air Chathams was happy to help. The airline offers scheduled daily connections between Auckland and Whanganui and organised chartered flights to deliver the South Island delegates. “Air Chathams was proud to be associated with the Clubs New Zealand 2018 Conference,” says Air Chathams Airline Commercial Manager Adrian Ali. “We are committed to providing the most exceptional regional air service to the river city of Whanganui.”

Given the large size of the conference, the Whanganui War Memorial Centre (WWMC) seemed the ideal venue and WWMC Event Coordinator Kylie Wetherall agreed. “We were really excited about hosting the large, multi-day Clubs New Zealand Conference,” Kylie says. “The whole team across Whanganui Venues and Events were involved, as well as having our other venues, Cooks Gardens Event Centre and the Royal Whanganui Opera House, humming with activities at the same time.”

That “hum” of activity is one of the benefits of hosting an event in Whanganui, which often hosts a number of events at once. “We know the buzz is sustainable,” says Louise Follett. “Because, from our rich heritage to our renowned manaakitanga, what Whanganui offers is authentic.”
