Cooks Gardens Whanganui
Premier Function, Sporting and Event Centre!
Cooks Gardens Whanganui is a multi-purpose stadium in the heart of Whanganui city. It is currently used mostly for rugby union matches, athletics, cycling, and hosting events and conferences. Cooks Gardens has been used as a sporting facility commenced in 1896. Since then Cooks Gardens has been the venue of a number of the world’s historic sporting occasions. One of these occasions was on 27 January 1962 when tens of thousands of spectators crammed into Cooks Gardens to witness athlete Peter Snell break the world record for the mile.
In 1996 a multimillion-dollar re-development of Cooks Gardens took place. This included an all-weather synthetic 400m athletic track, the first wooden cycling velodrome in New Zealand, and a new grandstand. Redevelopment of Cooks Gardens was completed in 2004 with the construction of two further grandstands.
The Cooks Gardens Function Centre & Lounge is the perfect venue for any function-business or pleasure, large or small. It can accommodate up to 100 guests seated or up to 200 guests standing. Adjoining the Function Centre is the Cooks Conference Room. For larger functions where more room is required, the Conference Room is able to be opened up and both rooms utilised together. Large windows along the stadium side of the Function Centre provide magnificent views of the stadium and wider city beyond, as well as abundant natural light.
To assist with the success of your next business function / event, we have a full range of presentation equipment available at the venue. If it is a party you’re after we can supply a range of party equipment & supplies – including decorations, DJ & Light Show, jukebox and/or karaoke machine, ‘mood’ lighting along with any additional linen, crockery, cutlery or glassware that may be required.
The Function Centre is equipped with full bar and kitchen facilities and is fully licenced until 1am. No BYO is permitted in the venue, however our friendly & experienced staff are happy to work with you to ensure all of your food & beverage requirements are catered for and that your function is an enjoyable and memorable occasion.
